Geoff Parr saves a penalty as Billinge score four

Billinge scored four unanswered goals today but its the manager who stole the show on the pitch.

Due to a late drop out in goal and as it would take 40 minutes for Jamie Scott to travel over to the match, manager Geoff Parr had to start in goal in what was a mixed squad. Geoff has never been a keeper so it was going to be a test for him and the team.

Sidac would have liked to Parr under early pressure but it was the opposite No 1, and also a stand in, Chris Heyes who was called into action first, pulling off a great save from a Tim O'Connor as he lashed a shot from outside the box.

The breakthrough came from a set piece, Liam Roughley delivered a corner from the right and stand in center back Liam Platt rose to head the ball in from the penalty spot.

The second came from a mazy run from Ste Wolhuter that looked like he was going nowhere. He found himself in the left wing area near the opposition goal line and from there he dug out what looked like was meant to be a cross but the ball looped over Heyes into te back of the net. A shear fluke but two in two for Ste so no complaints.

Sidac upped their game and got a reward at around 31 minutes. The ball broke in the box and in his efforts to clear the ball Liam Platt raised his boot high and the referee deemed it to be dangerous and awarded the penalty.

This was Geoff Parr's time to shine. By the sound of the shouts from the crowd Parr stood no chance as the big powerful center back steeped up to take the penalty. The number 4 composed himself and hit a thunderbolt with his right foot towards the bottom left hand corner. Parr's reactions were sharp as a dart and dove to his right, palming the ball away to safety and finally cleared from the box by Paul Doherty. It was a save that would not look out of place at Old Trafford or even Wembley.

After the save Parr composed himself and played like Manuel Neuer, sweeping up behind his defence and distributing the ball into dangerous areas. The pressure was now back on Heyes and it would be too much for the lad to handle.

The ball broke into the box and Heyes should have collect the ball with ease but as he scooped it up he fumbled the ball into O'Connors path and he would have the easy task of tapping it into an open goal.

O'Conner also hit the post before Geoff Parr finally left the field to be replaced by Jamie Scott on 43 minutes. The whole crowd clapped him off in appreciation for his great work on the day. A touch of class from both sets of fans.

At half time and just past, Billinge made six changes and it would be a while before they scored again, Graeme didn't think it would be his day as he watched an earlier effort rattle of the ball but Simmo would get the goal he craved so much.

Rooke set him up on the edge of the box and he would hit a rasper into the far top corner. A great finish.

Billinge would hit the frame again in the later stages but no more goals would be scored.

A great run out and a day that will always be remembered for THAT save.
